One person was killed and many were injured after military troops violently dispersed a mass of protesters in Egypt, the country’s health ministry said on Saturday.

The fight came in hours after protesters gathered in Tahrir Square on Friday. The protesters rallied that the military act against president Mubarak, including his family for suspected case of corruption.

The demonstators include a large group of people from the Muslim Brotherhood. They were marching towards the embassy when they were ceased by a military checkpoint. They also demanded that the embassy should be shut down and that Egypt should discontinue selling natural gas to the modern state of Israel.

Hundreds of soldiers swept through central Tahrir Sqaure in Cairo around 3 AM. They violently dispersed the demonstrators, beating them with clubs and firing gunshots into the air.

When troops dispersed, demonstrators gathered inside the Tahrir square and fenced themselves with barbed wire. They brought sticks and other makeshift weapons to defend themselves. They also set three vehicles on fire. Black smoke covered the air as the sun rose in Cairo.

A statement issued by the military said demonstrators violated the 2AM to 5AM curfew in Egypt. They alleged that no one was harmed or arrested. The armed forces stressed out in an interview regarding the protest that it would never tolerate these kinds of behaviors.

Tahrir square was filled with stones, shattered glass, and debris from the clash. Store’s glass storefronts was also smashed. It portrayed a scene similar to the January protest that brought down the Hosni Mubarak regime.
