Hines Ward apparently made a good first impression on the season premiere of the “Dancing with the Stars” reality show on Monday evening.
Ward, a wide receiver from the Pittsburgh Steelers, joins the many other NFL players who have made a remarkable appearance on the previous seasons of the hit dance competition aired on ABC.
The football player is now teamed up with former professional dancer Kym Johnson, 34-years-old, from Australia. She was the “Dancing with the Stars” Season 9 winner with her partner Donny Osmond. In Australia, she also won the second season of the country’s version of the show.
On the two-hour season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars”, contestants were asked to dance a cha-cha or foxtrot. Ward and Johnson danced the cha-cha, and both scored a remarkable 21 out of 30 points for their first dance.
Ward appeared smooth and quite relaxed on the dance floor, although he got a little more conscious of himself as the dance continued. The judges seemed to have liked him. Carrie Ann believes he controlled the dance while Len Goodman said he was crisp, clean and confident. Also, Bruno Tonioli thought Ward has an excellent timing and has a natural power as a performance.
Ward and his partner received 7 points each from all three judges, thus, giving them a total of 21 points. The pair appeared strong contenders in the show.
The competition will continue and the couple who will receive the lowest score from the judges and the votes from the viewers will be sent home. The “Dancing with the Stars” airs every Monday at 8 PM and Tuesday at 9 PM at ABC. The season winner will win a mirrored disco ball trophy.

The Steelers placed quarterback Dennis Dixon on injured reserve Saturday after suffering from a knee injury while Ben Roethlisberger is expected to go back on the team after ending his four-game suspension.
Dennis Dixon had injured his knee during the Pittsburgh Steelers match against the Tennessee Titans on their second week. Steelers’ had won with 19-11 score, but they had to end Dixon’s season.
Dixon led Pittsburgh’s victory during the past two seasons. In one of his games, he made 22-of-32 for the 254 yard with only one interception. Last week, he underwent knee surgery to repair the tear on his left knee’s cartilage. He is expected to miss about 6-weeks to recuperate.
On the other hand, Ben Roethlisberger began the season with a four-game suspension after being accused of sexual assault. He is scheduled to return to game, after Steelers’ Sunday game against Baltimore.
This is Roethlisberger’s 7th season with the Steelers. He was chosen by his team as the 11th overall in the NFL 2004 Draft. He helped the Steelers win the Super Bowl XL with a 21-10 score against the Seattle Seahawks.
While Roethlisberger is yet to return on Monday, the Steelers with a 3-0 win for the season, are missing a quarterback for this Sunday’s match. The Steelers have been undefeated with several Super Bowl titles and AFC Championship games. Their most recent championship was the Super Bowl XLII last February 1, 2009.
