Josh Powell Kills Self, Two Sons in Home Fire

Josh- Powell Kills Self / SonsGRAHAM, Washington – An email apparently left by Josh Powell, to his attorney stating simply “I’m sorry, goodbye,” was received shortly after Powell’s home burned down, killing him and his two adolescent boys inside.

Powell’s email revealed that his life had become anything but private over the past two years, ever since his wife disappeared. As he was the only suspect in the disappearance of his wife, the police along with the media had put Powell’s life under such scrutiny that he couldn’t live a normal life. The email he sent to his lawyer was received just a short time before he had set his home ablaze, authorities said.

The reason Powell decided to commit suicide and to kill his two sons was no doubt triggered after he was required to submit himself to psycho-sexual evaluation tests, and then denied custody of his boys. Firefighters and sheriffs working around the debris that was once a home found three bodies, the bodies are believed to be those of Powell and the two adolescent boys.

On Feb.5, a case worker from Child Services delivered the two boys to their father’s home for a supervised home visit, but as soon as the boys got out of the car, they ran into the home. Josh Powell then closed the front door and locked it behind them, which prevented the case worker from entering.

The case worker had smelled gas coming from within the home and then an explosion had occurred causing the house to become engulfed in flames. The death of Josh Powell and that of his children has brought an unfortunate ending to an extremely public scandal, one that had begun with the disappearance of Susan Powell, in 2009, and ending in a horrific loss of innocent lives.

Arizona College Thought Lougner Had a Gun

Emails sent by an Arizona college were released due to a court order regarding the Tucson shooting rampage. The emails show that campus police have already been worried about the behavior of the suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, and that they were concerned he was armed.

One of the emails from Pima Community College, the Arizona College Loughner attended, showed that one of the campus police officers contacted federal firearms officials asking if Loughner owned firearms. The Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives officials replied to the email and said they had no records on Loughner.

Months before the shootout on January 8, the exchange of emails between the Arizona College and the police indicate that the school knew about Loughner’s disturbing and bizarre behavior. The school expelled Loughner in September 2010.

According to the emails that were released on Thursday, the college alerted local police more than five times regarding Loughner’s behavior while he was still in school. One of the reported cases is the February 2010 incident wherein Loughner made uncalled-for comments in class. He reportedly talked about abortion, strapping bombs to infants, and killing people.

During the same month, a student told college authorities that she saw Loughner place a knife on his desk while in class. The event prompted a professor to warn that the school must do everything to remove Loughner from the campus.

Loughner is the primary suspect for open shooting on Congresswoman Giffords and the killing of six people. He has pleaded not guilty to all 49 charges which include two counts of murder of a federal employee.

Amazon Planning their Own Applications Store for Android- Wall Street Journal

Amazon.com is said to be launching their applications store for Google Inc’s Android Mobile platform by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

If this will happen, Amazon will be in competetition with other available application stores online from Apple Inc., as well as from Google itself.

Amazon.com is America’s largest online retailer. Just recently, they started selling eBook contents through the Kindle platform. Although few application games have been released for Kindle, an application store that would be used for several Android phones and tablets would benefit the online shopping giant.

The Amazon spokesman, when asked for any feedback regarding the speculations, replied through email that they have not announced anything yet. On the other hand, Google did not mention anything about it. According to the Google spokesman, they do not comment on rumor or speculation.

Amazon has wanted to become a software selling company. Based on the given report from Wall Street Journal, the company only wants a 30% cut of profit. This means, application developers will get a total of 70 percent revenue from sales.

The 70/30 revenue sharing arrangement is actually the same as what Apple uses for its application developers.

Google’s Android Marketplace only has 80,000 applications while Apple’s applications store has more that 270,000 apps to boast.

Android mobile has been gaining popularity around several smartphone users. They have even begun competing with Apple iPhone handset. Several devices are already Android-installed such as Samsung’s Galaxy S and Motorola’s Droid.
