John Wall – MVP, Record 22 Assists and a Dougie

All Star Rookie Challenge Staples CenterJohn wall lead the Rookie Challenge with a record 22 assists. The Rookies won over the Sophomores 148 to 140 in the 2011 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge.

After a less than spectacular first half, the energy doubled the second half with what seemed like a duel for the MVP prize by DeJan Blair and DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins had been an MVP favorite and looking at his stats you could not deny that. But in the end Wall’s 22 assists pushed him into the MVP slot.

Blair ended the game shooting 14 for 21 with 28 points and 15 rebounds. Cousins had 33 points and an equally impressive 14 rebounds.

Wall and Griffin had the quintessential wow moment of the game. During the second half of the game an alley-oop bounce pass with a reverse two handed slam dunk by Griffin had everyone out of their seats.

John wall scored 12 points only slightly behind Blair and Cousins, but his 22 assists are what everyone is talking about. Chris Paul held the record at 17 assists previously.

There is also some talk of Dougie dunks and whether or not that was the move Wall was trying to do while hanging from the rim. Right now that is still open for interpretation.

Further highlights of the game include Serge Ibaka of the Thunder with two three pointers and a whopping 30 points by James Harden.

The T-Mobile Rookie Challenge took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Friday the day before the regular All Star Game Which is happening Today.

Spurs Beat Warriors 113-102 after Brief Duncan Scare

The San Antonio Spurs survived Tim Duncan’s short-lived injury scare before the team won against the Golden State Warriors from a 113-102 score on Monday night.

In the second quarter, Duncan fell to the floor when he suddenly experienced a left knee injury. This had alarmed the entire Spurs bench area. He went back to finish the game with 16 points and seven rebounds helping the San Antonio get back from a loss to New Orleans.

Shooting guard Manu Ginobili made 20 points and seven assists. Tony Parker supplemented further points with 18 scores and eleven assists, while Antonio McDyess scored 14 points and made 10 rebounds.

The NBA-best Spurs (38-7) went casually to a stress-free triumph that finalized the Western Conference’s best record all through the games on February 6. This means Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will be coaching the West squad February 20 in the All-Star game at Los Angeles.

David Lee scored a season-high 31 points along with 12 rebounds. Monta Ellis then scored 25 points for the Warriors in the hopes that they get to join the playoff picture.

The advantage for the Spurs is probably due to the fact that they left town with a complete team.

Duncan gave his teammates a fright when he turned to score the basket after setting a pick on Acie Law, but his left knee looked slightly buckled. He went down the floor, cringing while he seized his knee.

The entire Spurs bench ran to the floor to check the 12-time All-Star. Duncan needed help to get up but he then walked to the locker room on his own. Duncan came back to play the third quarter after he had a hyperflexed left knee. He played with no signs of injury.
