Oprah Winfrey Reveals News of Half-Sister

Oprah Winfrey revealed on Monday that she has a half sister and that she only discovered this late last year. She said the news left her speechless.

She welcomed Patricia, a single mother of two to an emotional reunion during her daytime talk show. Winfrey disclosed that her mother Vernita secretly gave birth in 1963 and handed the baby up for adoption.

Now 56-years old, Winfrey said she was only nine years old when her mother got pregnant. She said she was really shocked when she found out at the end of October that she has another sister living just 90 minutes away.

Winfrey believed that nothing more could surprise her, but she told her viewers she was wrong.

Patricia’s last name was not revealed. She said that she had grown up in foster homes since the age of 7. She found out in 2007 that Winfrey is her half sister, but she concealed the truth since it would cause big talk in the media.

Winfrey explained Patricia never thought to go to the press or sell her story.

Winfrey’s life has been thoroughly documented. She was born to an unmarried parent in Mississippi and was cared for by her grandmother during early childhood. She was swapped between parents during her teenage years and was a victim of abuse. She got pregnant at the age of 14, but her son died after birth.

Even so, Winfrey became the most influential woman on U.S television. She is hosting a talk show now in its 25th year.

She asked her mother why she had given Patricia up for adoption. Her mother said she had felt unable to take care of her. However, Vernita thought it was a terrible thing for her to do.

Anchor Keith Olbermann and MSNBC Network Unexpectedly Part Ways

Top anchor Keith Olbermann, and the U.S cable television news network MSNBC suddenly separated ways on Friday, following the broadcaster’s suspension less than three months ago for campaign donations to Democrats.

The famous broadcaster, Olbermann still has his 2 year contract with the mentioned network but signed off for the last time on his show “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” on Friday night.

Olbermann said in his last aired show that it would be his last edition of “Countdown”. The show constantly drew more than a million viewers each night. The network stated that the two parties have ended their contract; however neither party gave the reason for the said action.

His exit happened just a few months after the suspension that MSNBC gave to Olbermann for doling money to three democratic politicians during the campaign of congressional election together with Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was unexpectedly shot and wounded in an assassination plot last January 8 in Arizona.

The network said MSNBC showed gratitude to the broadcaster for his role in MSNBC’s triumph and wished well him for his future career.

Olbermann’s show helped define MSNBC as a liberal voice in television, as well as a counterpoint to Fox News’ huge conservative bend. Today, MSNBC is positioned 2nd in the cable news ratings outrunning CNN but behind Fox News.

MSNBC underwent transition today. Comcast Corp won the approval from the Federal Communications Commission earlier this week with the U.S Justice Department for its blend with NBC Universal, the company runs MSNBC.

Rock Promoter Don Krishner Dies at Age 76 in Florida

Rock promoter and music publisher Don Krishner has died at the age of 76. He was being treated for an infection at a hospital in Boca Raton when he died on Monday, promoter Jack Wishna, a close friend and business associate told on Tuesday.

Krishner was once called “The Man with the Golden Ear” by Time Magazine. He had helped the make-believe groups The Monkees and The Archies garner music hits and enhanced the careers of Neil Diamond, Billy Joel and the Police.

He first began in the business as a song writer. He wrote “My First Love” for Bobby Darin. However, he had more accomplishments in tapping song writing talents such as King, Neil Sedaka and Diamond.

In the 1960’s, Kirshner’s songwriters were tapped to compose music for a group built for television named The Monkees. The group became very famous in TV, as well as in the rock world with their hits “I’m a Believer” that Diamond had written.

Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees said he remembers Donnie as one of the ‘suits’ that originally came out the West coast from New York and would appear at some of the studio sessions. At first, Dolenz didn’t know what he did. Years later, he realized how Donnie had made an influence on the choice of material that his group produced and he is eternally grateful for that.

Before his death, Kirshner was the chief creative officer of Rockrena, a company that will launch this year to seek and promote talents on the internet.

Britney Spears’ Newest Song Ascends Billboard’s Pop Chart

Britney Spears’ recent song “Hold It Against Me” soared up to a record-setting debut on Billboard’s Pop chart as predicted after its enormous first-day play.

The first single from Spears’ upcoming ninth album hit the survey at no.16 with 4,071 plays. Currently, that is the highest total detections made by a debuting title in the 18-year history of the pop chart.

“Hold It Against Me” ties with Madonna’s “Frozen” for the second-highest launch in the chart’s archives. “Frozen” had soared to no. 16 in March, 1998. Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover” solely debuted at a higher rank that reached no. 12 in August, 1993.

According to Nielsen BDS, the Pop Songs chart records the most-played songs on 130 mainstream top 40 radio stations.

Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” obtained an airplay on all 130 reporting stations in the chart’s tracking week from January 10-16. Durring its first-week airplay, the song moved to 36.4 million listener impressions, which is the week’s 10th-highest mainstream top 40 audience totals.

Britney Spears has had her ups and downs for over the last decade. However, every time she releases new music, it is an event for the format, the KHOP program director MoJoe Roberts said.

He also added that Spears’ song is one of the rare tracks that he immediately placed into the power rotation after just one listen.

The reaction of the audiences to her new single has been nothing short of stunning. This is another pure pop hit from Ms. Spears, Roberts said.

The song is expected to exceed 400,000 download sales in its first-week based from industry sources. It is likely to make additional historic headlines this week as it is projected to become the 18th song to debut at no. 1 since the Billboard Hot 100 started in 1958.

“Skins”, New MTV Series about Teenage Drama

MTV will be premiering their new series “Skins” on Monday at 10 PM EST. This is a raw television show that relies on the time-tested themes of adolescent drama.

“Skins” is based on the popular British series with the same title that is co-created by Bryan Elsley and his son, Jamie Brittain. Both have written and executive produced the MTV series.

The U.S “Skins” remake consists of a group of fresh people similar to the original series. Most of the cast are first-time actors and actresses and all are actually teenagers.

The show boasts they are excellent and even with their considerable beauty, the actors show human authenticity rather than the stereotypes. The teenagers and the whole show are based in Baltimore, Maryland.

The British series included explicit scenes of drinking, drug taking, and sex as it followed a group of young adults in Bristol. It gained more than 1 million viewers on Channel 4’s E4 during its pilot episode. MTV, has promised to preserve the authenticity and maintain the success of the show.

MTV’s “Skins” is located in a dreary Northeast city with an active high school life. It focuses more on the nine main characters that are related with one another in several ways.

The premiere introduces all of the characters to the audience through the group’s manipulative pin-up, Tony Stonem. However, various episodes of the 10-part season will concentrate on different characters.

“Skins” tell the dramatic ups and downs of adolescence. However, the show should not be mistaken for reality, global news network Associated Press said.

Boardwalk and Glee Reign Golden Globes Award

Boardwalk Empire outshone the three-year fame of television’s Mad Men on Sunday as the prohibition-era drama won the Golden Globe for best TV drama on the night of awards in the TV categories.

Steve Buscemi, the Boardwalk Empire star also won his first Golden Globe for his role as a corrupt official in the drama by the HBO. These awards helped the top-class cable TV network achieve the biggest awards of the night given with a total of four trophies.

The big winner in the comedy category was the energetic Fox musical hit Glee. It collected three awards, which includes the best TV comedy series, female supporting actor for Jane Lynch’s conniving cheerleading coach and male supporting actor for Chris Colfer’s gay teen student.

Colfer became a hit star upon landing the role of Kurt Hummel in the comedy and musical series. In his acceptance speech, he thanked creator Ryan Murphy for basically being his fairy godmother. At the backstage, he also credited Glee for making performing arts cool again.

The achievement of Glee on Sunday has made Fox the second biggest network winner after HBO. CBS, FX, Showtime and the Sundance Channel ended the night with one award each. However, networks ABC and NBC did not receive any awards.

Yet, the biggest shock went to the TV drama series “Mad Men,” when their three-year victory was finally defeated by the “Boardwalk Empire.” Creator Terence Winter told that the 1930s gangster series was set in an American history wherein the period has not been explored much on film, most especially on TV. Indeed, it was a time in history that you cannot resist not to write about.
